Long-awaited Google+ Debuted

It is like Google opening a Facebook account, but with much better privacy and some enhanced features . I will go for it," says Ankit Tripathi, a Bangalore-based software developer who quit Facebook earlier this year. .

The new social networking service called Google+ looks similar to Facebook, and allows users to upload photo updates, comments and have conversations with groups of friends. While Facebook still dominates the social networking space with over 700 million users across the globe, the site has been facing criticism on privacy concerns.

HP Pavilion dv6t-6000 : Nice laptop at a nice price

The HP Pavilion dv6t is a solid improvement on HP's previous 15-inch mainstream consumer laptop with numerous tweaks, bells, and whistles, but the wide variety of options means you'll get wildly different systems based on what you can afford.
Pros: 1. Customizable. I was able to get exactly what I wanted.
2. Upgraded GPU (hd 6770m) has good gaming performance.
3. Reasonable price.
4. Good audio.
5. Build quality is better than expected.
6. Runs cool and quiet.
Cons: 1. There's an HP logo that lights up on the lid of the laptop when it is turned on (much like an apple laptop). Can't figure out how to turn it off.
2. A bit bulky. It's a full size 15" so don't be surprised.

Summary: I'm pretty pleased with the HP. No buyer's remorse at all. Compared quite a bit and feel I got a good deal. It does everything I want. The i5 is really impressive. The upgraded 6770m GPU is well worth it if you want to game. Been getting 35fps on Crysis 2, highest settings, 1024 x 768 resolution (it's connected to my 42" plasma). If you are interested, check out the HP site and customize a build for yourself. Might be a good fit for you too.
FINAL WORDS: If you can get a good deal, this computer is well worth the price. Basically a desktop replacement with a little more mobility.

Apple iOS 5.0 Beta 2 Intro Logo on iPhone 4 HD

Apple just released iOS 5 beta 2 to developers. Build 9A5248d is available now in the Dev Center for registered iOS developers.
Apple has just released the second beta of iOS 5 for developers.
The biggest new addition: Wi-Fi syncing with iTunes 10.5 (also a developer beta released today) is ready to go.We just did a full restore and install of iOS 5 beta so we could test out iCloud's new backup.
All you do is log in with your Apple ID and your phone restores from it's last backup point.
After a quick download, the phone restarts. You have to log in with your Apple ID and all your apps appear in the same place as they were before. They begin downloading right away.
From what we’ve been able to see in the release notes so far, it looks like iMessage on iOS 5 beta 2 won’t be able to communicate with iMessage users on beta 1, and the new iTunes 10.5 beta won’t be able to sync with devices running the old beta 1:
Message seed 2 will be unable to communicate with iMessage users on seed 1.
The version of iTunes that comes with beta 2 cannot sync devices that have the beta 1 software installed.

Summary :
Apple has just put up the second beta version of its new operating system for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch devices. iOS 5 Beta 2 build 9A5248d is now available for registered iOS developers in the Apple Dev Center. iTunes 10.5 Beta 2 is also available for developers."

Comparing Music Services Apple iCloud vs. Google Music Beta vs. Amazon Cloud Drive

A huge difference of iCloud's music capabilities is that you can't play songs from within a Web browser (at least as far as we have seen so far) as you can with both Amazon and Google's offerings. You'll either need an iOS device or iTunes running on a computer. True, this does include Windows PCs running iTunes, but forget any non-Apple tablets or phones. This lack of Web access is just less flexible. Nor can you stream music from its online storage—the music must be fully downloaded to play.
Apple’s new iTunes with iCloud will certainly be a tough one to beat. iTunes already leads far ahead of the pack when it comes to music downloads, and now it has full record label support plus a unit iTunes Match feature. The feature lets you scan and match your music to Apple’s library for music syncing rather than requiring you to upload your entire collection in order to stream it.

it costs $24.99 a year for this service.
Amazon’s Cloud Player was the first one out the door, but functions mainly as a digital music locker. The giant online retailer chose to forgo licensing deals with record labels and therefore cannot sell songs directly via its Cloud Drive. But, they can sell songs in their MP3 Store, from where you must download the song and then upload it to your Cloud Drive.

Google’s Music Beta works like a digital music locker much like Amazon’s Cloud Player. Without record label support, Google cannot directly sell or distribute music through its Music Beta service. Instead, users much upload their existing music collection to the service for streaming.

 Major drawbacks

Amazon Cloud Drive Probably the biggest draw back of the Amazon service is the slow setup. When we tested it, the service took some patience and persistence to get going after several crashes. After that comes hours upon hours, possibly several days, of uploading your music library. Once your music is in there, playlists you once had will be gone and there’s no way to rate any of your songs in your library. If you aren’t an avid Amazon purchaser, holding a large music library in Cloud Drive is going to cost you a hefty amount. Users are also unable to edit any song metadata.
Google Music Beta
While we were generally happy with Music Beta’s performance, Google has some big kinks to work out. With this kind of service, the slow upload time is going to be a pain, but it’s pretty unavoidable. However, Google needs to give users more control over which songs get uploaded into the cloud, instead of a simple two-option choice between everything in the iTunes folder or everything in another folder. There is no way to purchase any music through Music Beta (though you can choose to have new iTunes purchases automatically uploaded), which will be a drawback for some users. A forthcoming price tag (unless we’re lucky) could also be a drawback.
Apple iCloud
The biggest evident drawback of iCloud, or what we know about it, is that there won’t be any access from the Web. As far as we know, users won’t be able to access their libraries of songs by simply opening up a browser window. This will no doubt alienate users who don’t use all Apple devices, but perhaps that’s part of Steve Jobs’ strategy.
I predict that Apple will steal its competitors thunder with its great offering despite the fact that it does not offer any streaming service or access from a Web Browser . Despite these limitations it still has a lot to offer and will give Google and Amazon a run for its money.
The most powerful approach of all, though, is probably to use these things in combination. Use the free 25GB from SkyDrive for your photos, Google for your docs and mail (or perhaps more Windows Live) and Amazon for videos seeing as there’s no file size limit. Dropbox is the one to use for convenience. It’s the best syncing tool of the lot and given that storage on the service isn’t cheap, use it as just that – a tool.

Possibly the best advice of all is to use them all. Use them all up until the point where you have to pay for them. That way you’ll max out your storage and minimise your cost but perhaps use each service for just one type of media. That way you might actually be able to keep track of it all.
A central difference of Apple's iCloud versus the others is that it's not just for music: It takes over all the former MobileMe's functions—email, contacts, calendar—along with backing up and syncing iOS device photos, app data, and iWork documents. Thus ends the stormy story of the MobileMe service, which even Steve Jobs noted at WWDC was "not our finest hour." This comparison, though will concern itself primarily with the music aspect of iCloud, iTunes in the Cloud.

Google will discontinue Google Health and Google PowerMeter

Google will discontinue two of its products -- Google Health and Google PowerMeter -- after neither achieved the popularity necessary to continue them, according to the company.
Google Health, launched in May 2008, was intended as a service that aggregated health and wellness information. Users could create an account at google.com/health and import their medical records, lab results, prescription info and immunization histories.
Google PowerMeter is a energy monitoring tool that helped users analyze their home's energy consumption.
In the case of Google Health, the site will remain operational until Jan. 1, 2012. From then until Jan. 1, 2013, users will not be able to use the site but will be able to download their data. Google PowerMeter, on the other hand, will be retired on Sept. 16 of this year.

Google PowerMeter is set to retire Sept. 16. Users can download the data on their accounts.
Google Health will be discontinued Jan. 1, 2012, although records and other data on that service will be available to download until Jan 1, 2013. Users can get their records in a variety of formats, including a printable PDF file, HTML or XML versions. The tech giant will also add the ability to transfer files to other health database services such as Microsoft's HealthVault, Google said.

Infosys, Tata beat Google, Apple as top brands in Indian Market

IT giant Infosys is the lead brand in India while salt-to-software conglomerate Tata occupies the second spot, according to a survey.
In fact, seven out of the top ten brands in India are native firms. Though global conglomerate Google is ranked third, Maruti-Suzuki and Larsen & Toubro walk away with the fourth and fifth positions, ahead of Nokia. State Bank of India is ahead of Facebook, which ranks eighth.
The surprise is that global giants such as Microsoft, Apple and GE fail to make it to the list of top 20 brands in India.
The research that was conducted by research consultancy firm GlobeScan for TLG's Index of Thought Leaders 2011 says, "India has greater conviction about the leadership credentials of indigenous companies than in the UK; over half of the companies are privately owned or listed in India."

Windows Phone 7 Ready for Release

Microsoft Windows Phone 7 "Mango"

Windows Phone 7 (previously Windows Phone 7 Series) is a mobile operating system developed by Microsoft, and is the successor to its Windows Mobile platform. Unlike its predecessor, it is primarily aimed at the consumer market rather than the enterprise market. It was launched in Europe, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand on October 21, 2010, and in the US and Canada on November 8, 2010, Mexico on November 24, 2010, the PAL region on December 3, 2010, and Asia in early 2011.
With Windows Phone 7, Microsoft offers a new user interface with its design language named Metro, integrates the operating system with third party and other Microsoft services, and controls the hardware it runs on.

The next version of Windows Phone 7, called "Mango," although that won't be its final name, is great-looking and fun to use. It's full of people-centric features that make it easier to stay in touch with friends and family, to communicate, and to share ideas. It's easier to use than Android, and in many ways slicker than Apple's iOS.
Mango phones will be available in the fall. Nokia Windows Phone 7 devices are expected late this year.

“Windows Phone 7 is the most thoroughly tested mobile platform Microsoft has ever released,” said Terry Myerson, Microsoft’s corporate vice president of windows phone engineering. “We had nearly ten thousand devices running automated tests daily, over a half million hours of active self-hosting use, over three and a half million hours of stress test passes, and eight and a half million hours of fully automated test passes. We’ve had thousands of independent software vendors and early adopters testing our software and giving us great feedback. We are ready.”
  • Bottom Line
The latest iteration of Windows Phone 7, "Mango" is competitive with the latest smartphone operating systems. But Microsoft's partners need to deliver better hardware and sales experiences.

Nokia N9 world’s first pure touch screen phone without any front-facing buttons

Nokia introduced the Nokia N9, the first-ever pure touch smartphone that is all about making things simpler. Nokia N9 focuses on the most important things that people do: use apps, get notifications and switch between different activities. Navigating the UI is done with a simple gesture, a swipe of a finger. Let’s have a closer look at what the Nokia N9 is bringing to the game.

NO BUTTONS

The Nokia N9 is the world’s first pure touch screen phone without any front-facing buttons at all. You unlock the phone by just double-tapping the screen.
 POWERFUL CAMERA
The 8MP auto focus camera with Carl Zeiss optics, dual LED flash and super wide 28mm lens works faster from start to capture than any other manufacturer’s smartphone camera in the market. HD video and true 16:9 resolution photos are supported. You can share your photos via MMS, email, NFC and many online services including Flickr and Facebook.

FAST WEB BROWSER

The fast web browser is built on the latest Webkit 2 technology. Even while loading a web page, the screen remains responsive. You can have several browser windows open in the open applications view and switching between them is, again, fast and easy. Favourite websites are shown as visual thumbnails, supported by a full browsing history. Wide HTML5 support offers access to rich web applications and fast video playback.

LATEST MAPS

The Nokia N9 has the latest Nokia Maps with free, voice-guided turn-by-turn navigation for walking and driving. There is also a dedicated Drive app for in-car navigation, which lets you start navigating to your destination instantly after entering your destination. Public transport routing in 85 cities means you can find the quickest route on foot or by tram, metro or train. You can also discover nearby places with cafés, shops, hotels and more, all marked along the way.
You can find the product specifications in the data sheet.

Apple iPad 2 has debuted “Now,” a new 30-second television commercial

iPad is now changing the way we do just about everything, from watching a newspaper to looking at the stars.

Apple recently posted a new iPad 2 TV ad called “Now” that continues to emphasize on the user ‘experience’ rather than tech specs. The ad showcases how iPad users use their device to read newspapers, magazines, watch movies and even video call using FaceTime. It further goes on to mention the use of iPads in classroom, reading eBooks and using apps.

Now, we can watch a newspaper; listen to a magazine; curl up with a movie; and see a phone call.

Now, we can take a classroom anywhere; hold an entire bookstore; and touch the stars.

Because now, there’s this.
